Clinical Use | Patients with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) have an inherited primary immunodeficiency with recurrent infections and granulomas. Their neutrophils are fully capable of ingesting bacteria and fungi but cannot kill because of the dysfunction of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase system and thus an inability to produce superoxide anions required for killing of the bacteria and fungal organisms. The DHR flow assay provides an assessment of the reactive oxygen intermediate (ROI) production by measuring the NADPH oxidase activity. |
